On Thursday mornings I have the real joy of sharing and worshipping with a couple of Christian brothers in Pakistan. It is 11am their time and 6am UK time, it is a great way to start the day.

These two brothers experience a Christianity very different to mine. Each day they go to remote villages to share their faith in Jesus. They minister to widows and orphans with very little resources, and face discouragement and opposition. On more than one occasion they have been threatened and have been warned to stop talking about Jesus.

For these men, this is the normal Christian life. To follow Jesus is to ‘carry your cross daily’; it is a call to ‘die to self’. They clearly don’t just talk the talk and when they share it is like reading a chapter from the Book of Acts.

Their Christianity challenges me greatly.

My Christianity, on the other hand, is far more sedate. I face little persecution, have an abundance of resources and have never been warned to stop talking about Jesus. Does this mean that the brothers in Pakistan have a more authentic faith? Not necessarily. None of us can determine where we are born, but whatever our context we are to live for Christ.

The question is ‘Are we living for Christ?’ The believers in Acts, full of the Holy Spirit, never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah. Do we actively seek to proclaim the name of Jesus? Do we trust God implicitly? Do we have an ‘Acts’ kind of faith?  A.W.Tozer observes that…

‘God is looking for people through whom He can do the impossible. What a pity that we plan only the things that we can do by ourselves.’

May we not rely on ourselves but put our faith in the God of the impossible!

April is Creation Month

Come and join us for a Sunday Morning series featuring Pastor Philip Dyson (Sunbridge Road Mission), Pastor Tony Brown (Sunbridge Road Mission) and Dr Don Batten (Creation Ministries International).

All services start at 10.30am and will be finished around midday.

The team from “Awakening 2012” would like to invite you to join with us and other churches from around Bradford for a night we’re calling “Magnified”. Through this event, we want to worship God and see Him magnified in our lives and in our city.

We really want to praise God for his goodness and the ways he changed lives in 2012 and into this year. We want to thank you for coming to Awakening and pray that you found it as uplifting as we did. What a good God we have!

We want to come together again this year and be united with you as the body of Christ, and be able to encourage one another in worship and God’s word. It will be amazing to see so many Christians magnifying his name and giving him the praise he is so worthy of.

Magnified will be held at Sunbridge Road Mission on Saturday 27rd April 2013 at 7:30pm. Doors will open at 7pm.
