We are a church with “Mission” at our heart and our aim is to support missionaries worldwide.
The Missionary Committee at Sunbridge Road Mission was formed to help give guidance to those who have been called by God to go out on the mission field either long or short term, and also to provide financial and prayer support towards their living costs.
In 2007 the Missionary Committee allocated £23,000 to missionaries and Christian organisations, and other smaller Christian projects. As a committee we pray about how the money should be spent, who to allocate to and what amount we should give.
The financial support the Missionary Committee gives comes mainly from the church tithe. Another source of income is from missionary collectors who are committed to collect each week or month from people in the congregation who give a regular amount of money.
When we support a missionary all we ask in return is that they keep the church informed of their work by regular letters, emails with prayer points. When they return we might ask them to give a talk or presentation about their work so people in the church are informed of how the money they give has been spent and also they get to know the missionary and their work.
It can be hard for a missionary when they first go out to a different country and culture and they can sometimes be lonely, get homesick and feel out of touch with what’s happening back at home. They may also struggle with finances. The role of the Missionary Committees to contact with them and offer prayer support and love to help out financially where we can.
For the last two years the Missionary Committee has supported Tim & Helga who are in Nairobi at a Bible School learning language skills to enable them to translate the Bible into various African languages.
The committee has also given one off donations to other people who are working for Christian organisations in various countries of the world including Peter & Martina in France, Ben & Ruth in Paraguay, David & Catherine in Asia, Cinthia in Paraguay, Luke in England. We also regularly support the Mukinge Girls’ school in Zambia where Mark & Dorothy were missionaries. We will also be supporting Hannah who is going to Asia later this year.
The Missionary Committee has also given donations to Christian organisations such as SAT-7, H.C.J.B., Zambezi Mission, Tear Fund, Mission to Prisons, Teen Challenge and have also given donations to Bradford University Christian Union for their fresher’s week.
As a Missionary Committee we are always willing to prayerfully consider suggestions as to where we allocate money. Anyone from our congregation thinking about missionary work is encouraged to talk to any member of the Missionary Committee.
